Pavlos Savvidis has received the B.Sc. in Physics of the University of Athens. He obtained his doctoral degree in Experimental Condensed Matter and Laser Physics from the University of Southampton in 2001 with work on ultrafast nonlinear interactions in semiconductor microcavites. His work on microcavities has been featured in "News and Views" section of Nature journal. From 2002 to 2004 he was a post-doctoral associate at the Department of Physics at Santa Barbara, USA with Prof. Jim Allen, working on the terahertz dynamics in semiconductor nanostructures and Bloch Oscillators. He returned to the Department of Physics of the University of Southampton in the group of Prof. Jeremy Baumberg, where he developed novel techniques for the study of nonlinear dynamics in organic microcavities. In 2004 he was appointed Assistant Professor at the Department of Material Science and Technology of the Universtiy of Crete. He is affiliated researcher of the Microelectronics Research Group at FO.R.T.H.-Institute of Electronic Structure and Laser (I.E.S.L.) since 2004. He is reviewer for the Physical Review Letters and Physical Review B.
