In the broader context of efforts towards a sustainable world, great emphasis is currently being placed on emerging technologies that are not only cost-effective, but also adaptable to a wide range of applications. The investigation of dielectric properties is a topic of continuously increasing interest, as it is inextricably linked to a multitude of technological applications in the field of photonics, electrical insulating materials as well as active dielectric materials. The precise determination, as well as the potential correlation of these properties is a prerequisite for the successful design and development of innovative technological materials with predefined, desirable properties. The scope of this Master thesis was the fabrication and characterization of composite dielectric materials, which in this case was achieved through the incorporation of Barium Titanate (ΒaΤiΟ3), a predominantly environmentally friendly dielectric material, within a commercially available polymeric material such as Silicone. Central to this concept, was the construction of flexible samples with enhanced mechanical and dielectric properties, whereas attention was also drawn to the behavior of the dielectric properties of these materials when subjected to both constant as well as cyclic mechanical loading.
