Abstract

The development of precisely engineered synthetic biomaterials based on natural biopolymers is a flourishing area of research focusing on establishing high-yielding and facile methodologies to overcome the limitations of the traditional methods of bioconjugation. Along these lines, the development of oxygen-tolerant, controlled radical polymerization approaches enabling the synthesis of a wide variety of hydrophilic, responsive or/and amphiphilic protein-polymer conjugates with interesting catalytic properties and assembling profiles will be discussed. Our efforts on the valorization of organic waste for the production of sustainable bioplastics will also be presented.
